THE AMERICAN FEDERATION OF AVICULTURE, INC. (AFA) proudly presented its 2006 National Show Award to Julia H. Allen, for the “Best Bird Bred and Banded by an AFA Member” ranking highest overall in the show.  Mrs. Allen – also a afa award 2 National Cockatiel Society (NCS) Panel Judge – captured the title with an outstanding Normal Grey Cockatiel selected by NCS Panel Judge, Lee Horton, presiding over the division. AFA National Show Awards Chair, Linda S. Rubin, presented Julia Allen with the prestigious award during the Saturday evening NCBS banquet held November 18, 2006 in Chicago, Illinois.

The winning Cockatiel won the NCBS Higgins Trophy for Best Cockatiel in Division, the top honor for the National Cockatiel Society, Inc., before capturing the coveted AFA afa award1 National Show Award. The National Cockatiel Society, Inc. holds a division each year at the NCBS and is a national specialty organization of the American Federation of Aviculture, Inc.

To qualify for the AFA National Show Award, exhibitors must be current paid members of AFA and fill out an official AFA entry form while registering their birds during the show. A separate form must be used for each division in which birds are entered and include the exhibitor’s breeder code that is stamped on their entries’ closed, traceable leg band. At the close of the show, the potential winner’s name is verified with the AFA membership database before presentation. Additional details on the AFA National Show Award and winner’s photographs are published periodically on the AFA website www.afabirds.org and in member publications such as afa award 3AFA In Brief, and the AFA Watchbird Journal.
